Mount Cameroon National Park Calls for an Eco-friendly Mt Cameroon Race of Hope
Every year, in the month of February, the Mount Cameroon National Park (MCNP) Service joins the regional, national and international stakeholders in the South West Region to participate in the Mt. Cameroon Race of Hope.
In the past three years, MCNP’s active involvement in the Mt Cameroon Race of Hope has mainly been focused on sensitizing the public on the recently created MCNP and its management objectives as well as the need to implement the Mt Cameroon Race of Hope with minimal damage to the fragile park ecosystem.
The Park’s sensitisation efforts over the years is not only increasing local awareness of this high biodiversity hotspot but improving its brand as an eco-touristic destination in the region. According to the Park’s records, there has been a 56% increase of the number of official visitors into the park between 2012 and 2015.
For this year’s event, the MCNP Service through a number of activities intends to engage the public with the objective to increase public awareness on the existing flagship species and the eco-touristic potentials of the park; show case the different activities implemented within the different Park Management Programs; and provide adequate sensitisation materials for the public.
Highlight of MCNP’s activities for the 2016 Mt Cameroon Race of hope includes an “Open Day” scheduled for the 26th of February 2016 at the Park Office; conservation quiz broadcasted over radio Bonakanda, Mediafrik, Christian Broadcasting Service and CRTV Buea; as well as the Mount Cameroon Elephant Game.
Join the MCNP Service and partners in their activities and discover the wonders of the Mount Cameroon National park.
